Root Canal Treatment (Endodontic Treatment)
Root canal treatment generally refers to the procedure of removing the infected nerve tissue from inside the tooth, which is typically caused by deep decay or trauma. When patients visit the dentist with symptoms such as nighttime pain, inability to bite on the painful tooth, or facial swelling, the goal of root canal treatment is to relieve the tooth of pain and preserve it in the mouth. Sometimes, even in the absence of pain, root canal treatment may be performed before other dental procedures. For example, in cases where a tooth with excessive structural loss cannot be filled, root canal treatment is performed and the tooth is supported from the root before applying a crown or other restoration.
