What is Open Sinus Lifting and How Is It Performed?
08 Nisan 2025

Open sinus lifting is applied in cases where the amount of bone desired to be obtained at the sinus floor is excessive. Routine dental anesthesia is applied for the surgical procedure and then the gum in the area to be treated is opened.

A window is prepared in the wall of the sinus cavity on the cheek side and this window is slowly pushed inward to form the new sinus floor. After this stage, if there is enough bone to immobilize the implant, the implant socket is prepared. Bone graft (bone powder) is placed through the window into the sinus cavity. The dental implant is placed through the created slot into the bone graft. A membrane (membrane) is placed on the exposed bone graft (bone powder) from the cheek side to prevent the healing process from being affected by the gum, the wound is closed and the healing process begins.

In cases where the bone deficiency is too deficient to allow dental implant placement with sinus lifting, the bone is first obtained by performing open sinus lifting. After the healing process is completed, dental implants are placed. Immediately after the procedure, antibiotics, painkillers, mouthwash and decongestants (to keep the sinus clean and dry) are prescribed.

The healing process is completed after an average of 4-6 months and the construction of the prosthetic part of the implant begins.
